About
the Hulman/Clabber Girl Museum
In
2002 we opened a museum celebrating the history of one of
the oldest companies in America. Clabber Girl Baking Powder
grew out of the manufacturing business of Hulman & Co.,
a wholesaler of general merchandise and grocery products.
Founded in 1849, the company was an important player in
both the regional and national economies.
The
museum is located at 9th and Wabash Avenue in Terre Haute,
Indiana. The building that currently houses the museum and
general offices was constructed in 1892. Photographs along
the pillars of our "Hall of Memories" show the
different faces that shaped our company history. Many examples
of the products and brands once produced or sold by the
company are also on display. Some of the more popular brand
names Hulman & Company manufactured were the Farmers
Pride, Dauntless and Crystal brands. The general merchandise
and grocery wholesale business closed in 1995, but the company
continues to manufacture products for the food industry.
Another
important part of the Hulman family of businesses is the
Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corp., purchased by Tony Hulman
Jr. at the end of WWII. At the museum visitors will see
an actual Indy racecar on display as well as other memorabilia
from the famed Speedway and the Greatest Spectacle in Racing.
Let
us welcome you in traditional Hulman style, and while your
here, make sure you visit Antonia's
Country Store or have breakfast or lunch in
The
Clabber Girl Bake Shop as you relax by the fireplace
and drink Rex Coffee, an 1879 Hulman blend, brought to you
as part of our renewed interest in the Hulman Heritage.
